Q.
How does laser hair
removal
work?
A. As you may
already know, a laser produces a beam of highly concentrated
light. Light emitted by the LightSheer Diode Laser is
absorbed only by the pigment located within the hair follicles.
The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to
vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time.
This either eliminates or significantly reduces the hair's
ability to grow back.

Q.
How does the Health
and Self Enhancement Center's LighSheer compare with other
methods of hair removal?
A. Shaving,
waxing, plucking, or depilatory creams are all temporary
methods, which must be repeated on a regular basis to keep
unwanted hair away. Hair removal with LightSheer advanced
laser technology offers longer lasting results.

Q.
Is this treatment
safe?

the FDA
for permanent hair reduction on all skin types.

Q.
What does the
treatment feel like?
A.
LightSheer's actively cooled handpiece makes treatments more
comfortable than other lasers on the market today. This is
an important difference, especially for a woman's sensitive
skin. When the pulse of laser light is delivered some
patients may feel a mild sting, similar to the snapping of a
rubber band on the skin. Local anesthesia or pain
medication is not required, but some patients prefer a topical
anesthetic for treatment of sensitive skin areas. We use a
cool preparation of aloe vera during the actual treatment for
enhanced patient comfort.

Q.
Are there side
effects?
A. Short-term
side effects may include slight reddening of the skin or local
swelling which typically lasts less than an hour. In very
rare instances, there may be some blistering.

Q.
Does skin color make
a difference?
A. Our
advanced technology enables us to provide customized treatment,
no matter what skin type you have. Patients with fair skin
and darker hair respond best to the treatment. Suntanned
patients or those with darker pigmentation may be pretreated
with a topical skin bleaching agent, wear sunscreen and avoid
the sun for at least six weeks prior to treatment. Talk
to our consultant about pre and post laser care instructions at
the time of your complimentary consultation.

Q.
How many treatments
are required?
A. The number
of treatments required for optimal, long-term benefits depends
on the area you wish to have treated, your hair's density and
growth cycle. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet,
medication and metabolism all play a part in the way your hair
responds to the treatment. On an average for lighter
skinned and darker haired patients, three or more treatments may
be needed. At the time of your consultation, talk to our
consultant about a realistic assessment of the number of
treatments for permanent hair reduction.

Q.
Are there any
restrictions on my activity after treatment?
A. After your
treatment, the affected area is cleansed and you may return to
your normal activities immediately. We may recommend that
you use a skin care regime specially formulated for your skin
type after laser treatments. As always, it is a good idea
to limit your sun exposure. The use of a good sunscreen is
recommended on any treated areas that will be exposed to the
sun. This is discussed in more detail during your
consultation.
